- Coif
- Hood of fabric or mail worn under a helmet. By the twelfth century it often incorporated a ventail.

- Anglo-Saxon single-handed axe, used in hand-to-hand combat and also as a missile.

- An integral flap of mail attached to the coif in the thirteenth century; it could be drawn across the mouth to protect the lower face.
