Short, fitted overcoat made of several thick fabric layers and a final layer which was usually from silk or velvet. Has an embroided coat of arms of the wearer.

- Coat-armor
- Top-covering piece of clothing. Popular in tournaments where it presented the beholder’s coat of arms.
- Flammards
- Also flambards. Two-handed swords with a certain wave or with a flamed blade.
- Pauldron
- Plate armor for shoulders from several overlapping pieces.
- Spaudler
- A light laminated defence protecting the point of the shoulder and top of the arm, especially popular in Germany.
