Coif
Hood of fabric or mail worn under a helmet. By the twelfth century it often incor­porated a ventail.
Flammards
Also flambards. Two-handed swords with a certain wave or with a flamed blade.
Helm, Great Helm
Helmet surrounding the whole head. Usually consist of 4-5 metal plates riveted together. Worn over a mail or a small steel cap.
Targe
Small, more flat wooden shield covered with leather or metal-trimmed, later all- steel.
