- Coif
- Hood of fabric or mail worn under a helmet. By the twelfth century it often incorporated a ventail.
- Flammards
- Also flambards. Two-handed swords with a certain wave or with a flamed blade.
- Helm, Great Helm
- Helmet surrounding the whole head. Usually consist of 4-5 metal plates riveted together. Worn over a mail or a small steel cap.
- Targe
- Small, more flat wooden shield covered with leather or metal-trimmed, later all- steel.
