- Boss
- Also umbo. The round shaped piece of metal at the center of a shield. Protects the hand.
- Coif
- Hood of fabric or mail worn under a helmet. By the twelfth century it often incorporated a ventail.

- Quilted and embellished coat-armor.

- A narrow strip or plate of steel, sometimes used in armour to provide articulation.
