- Hood of fabric or mail worn under a
helmet. By the twelfth century it often incorporated a
ventail.
- Lance
- Typical weapon of a man-at-arms. Firstly a long (9 ft)
spear but later developed into a heavier and even longer form unsuited for infantry.
- Lance rest
- A support for the
lance when couched; this was bolted to the right side of the breastplate and was often hinged.
